Nigerian Army Arrests 183 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Raid on 'Yahoo' Training Center

In a significant operation aimed at curbing cybercrime, the Nigerian Army's 63 Brigade, alongside Sector 1 Joint Task Force of Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), arrested 183 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud during a raid on a training center in Warri, Delta State. The operation, which took place on July 19, 2025, was the result of an intelligence tip-off regarding the illegal activities being carried out by the suspects.

According to Captain Iliyasu Bawa Rijau, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 63 Brigade, the suspects, all males aged between 16 and 29, were detained in various apartments that had been converted into a facility for training individuals in internet fraud, commonly referred to as "Yahoo Yahoo."

"The raid uncovered a significant haul of items, including 274 laptops, 87 mobile phones, 9 laptop chargers, 1 table phone, and 2 WiFi devices. These items are currently undergoing investigation as part of the ongoing effort to dismantle the network behind these fraudulent activities.

The suspects and the seized equipment are now undergoing preliminary investigations, and appropriate actions will be taken as required. The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to combating cybercrime and other criminal activities, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance in the fight against such illicit enterprises.

Brigadier General MA Shonibare, the Commander of the 63 Brigade/Sector 1 Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe, lauded the professionalism and dedication displayed by the troops during the operation. He commended the soldiers for their meticulous execution of the raid, which he described as a testament to the army's unwavering commitment to upholding security and peace in the region.

Furthermore, General Shonibare appealed to the public to continue supporting the military in its ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of the nation, particularly in the fight against cybercrime and other forms of illegal activity that threaten the country's stability.
